The Provan Family
We're the Provan's: Don, Jan, T.C., and Ian.
I've finally put together some kids (and dog) shots for interested relatives (like Grandma) to look at. The new puppy that arrived in May, 2006 (Anthony, at right) has several shots.
The Provan family has a long tradition of reunions, some of which have been captured on film.
When T.C. was in fourth grade, he interviewed his grandfather Provan about how Gramp was shot in World War II. I've heard the story all my life, but I was surprised about a lot of new details that came out in T.C.'s story.
Our feature picture for today is this 30ish year old picture of Jan's
family on horseback in a trip they
took to Ireland just before they embarked on their adult lifes. From
left to right, we have Tim, Carolyn (the mom), Richard or Dick (the
dad), Jan, Dave, and Rich. Mom and Dad are no longer with us, alas.
Everyone in the family has a nickname, an old tradition from Dad's
side of the family, but the only ones that are consistently used (to
this day) are Bearcat for Mom, and Henry for Dad. It actually took me
a while to actually realize the Jan's father's name wasn't
Henry, they use it so frequently.
Jan claims that the reason she looks so annoyed and isn't facing the camera is that her horse had been heading "back to the barn" for the entire return trip, so it wasn't interested in stopping for the picture.
Another classic picture featured here is one Ian took in fourth grade
for a book report on John Muir. It inspired him to make like Ansil
Adams and take some shots of Yosemite's natural beauty. Here's the classic view of Yosemite Falls that his efforts
produced.
